How Diet Causes Cellulite
Historically, women ate organic foods. Interestingly, the term "organic food" has become popular in the last 2 decades, but there was a time in the not too distant past where people in the USA did not know there was such a thing as organic food. They simply ate food which was grown naturally in their back yards or bought freshly harvested fruits and vegetables from the market, i.e all foods were organic. And less individuals had cellulite.
Large scale farming brought wide spread use of pesticides, insecticides, fertilizers and other food additives. This resulted in the conversion from nutritionally rich natural foods, to foods depleted in nutritional value and loaded with preservatives, insecticides, pesticides and many other toxic products.
Changing our diets from organic foods to nutrient poor toxic food has added to the cellulite epidemic. Not only is this phenomenon affecting cellulite, but also causes many other medical conditions.
Changing one's diet after heavy cellulite has formed (stage 3 cellulite) will not be a cure-all, but eliminating harmful foods can prevent cellulite from forming in the first place, and when combined with lifestyle changes may reduce the appearance of cellulite. Try to eat more natural foods that are not processed. This is not to say we should adopt a fad diet (like Atkins, South Beach, etc.) Maintaining cellulite-free legs is simple: supply the body with the nutrients it needs, rather than poisons that help cause cellulite. Eating foods low in artificial additives will not only make your legs look good, but will help your overall level of health and happiness.
How the Lack of Exercise Causes Cellulite
As lifestyles change, we're becoming a culture dependent on technology. It may be more appropriate to say we're becoming victims of technology. As we devote more time to information based jobs (the use of computers, office jobs) our lifestyle becomes increasingly sedentary, which has been show to add to the production of cellulite.

Evolution of the Human Species
We went from a culture of people who walked, rode bicycles and played outdoors to a culture of television, telephones, cell phones, video games, vacuum cleaners, washing machines . . . you get the picture. No wonder cellulite is becoming so problematic. Working out for about 20-60 minutes a day does not compare to the culture of our past or the Shipibo Indians in Peru who are active from sunrise to sundown. Interestingly, the Shipibo women Dr. Bissoon studied have no evidence of cellulite on their legs. There are multiple photographs of Shipibo women of varying ages with no cellulite in Dr. Bissoon's book, The Cellulite Cure.
By increasing one's daily activity, cellulite will have trouble forming. Exercise burns fat deposits, so cellulite cannot easily form on a person who stays active. We don't need to be dedicated athletes to benefit from exercise. Bike riding, walking, running, weight training, yoga, martial arts, rock climbing, simple body weight exercises, or any other form of physical activity will improve our health and lower the chances of cellulite developing.
How Fashion Changes Can Cause Cellulite
Lastly, women's panties are a very important causative factor in the development of cellulite. Women's underwear today is radically different from their counterpart 50-60 years ago. This discussion is not intended to be a history of women's underwear. However, in the sixties hemlines on skirts started to get shorter and thus the length of the underwear shortened. In the last 40-50 years we went from loose underwear around the thighs to tight underwear going across the middle of the buttock. Interestingly, with the introduction of the Mini Skirt in the 60-70's era, along with the Hot Pants, there came a wave of exposed cellulite.
Wearing thongs, boyshorts, or sleeping naked can reduce the occurance of cellulite. Underwear that has tight elastic across the buttock limits blood flow, causing cellulite to form. This is especially important while sleeping, as the legs are not as active. When taken into consideration with the above two methods, cellulite can be prevented with a couple easy precautions.
For more on the effects of panties on cellulite read the chapter, "The Problem With Panties" in The Cellulite Cure.Lower levels of estrogen lead to cellulite
Dr. Bissoon has done a thorough job of discussing the reasons why women are prone to developing cellulite in his book, The Cellulite Cure. Thus, we will not repeat his work. Cellulite development involves the gradual decrease in estrogen with aging. Cellulite is a disease of aging and not a cosmetic condition. It is common for women to report an increase in the appearance of cellulite as they approach menopause along with rapid progression post menopause. The combination of the gradual decrease in estrogen and the previously mentioned three factors facilitates the development of cellulite.
Cellulite results from a combination of factors
The previous four factors: change in diet, an increasingly sedentary lifestyle, constrictive undergarments, and a decrease in estrogen all work together in concert to produce cellulite.
