Cellulite Information, Cellulite Myths
Cellulite can affect men
It is common to think only women develop cellulite. However this is false. We mentioned earlier approximately 10 % of men develop cellulite. Unlike women, there are no established reasons why men develop cellulite. Men with cellulite have normal hormone levels. There is no increase in cellulite in men with low testosterone levels. There are no current theories why men develop cellulite. Perhaps the theory of tight underwear may apply here.
Cellulite only affects overweight women
Another common cellulite myth is only fat women develop cellulite. This is a rather unfortunate rumor. Thin women do develop cellulite earlier and it becomes more pronounced as they get older. Overweight women do develop cellulite; however, their concerns are more with weight loss than with cellulite. Another reason why diet and exercise is not a viable option, we simply do not women becoming anorexic or bulimic to combat cellulite.
Cellulite can be treated with Liposuction
Liposuction has been touted as cure for cellulite. This procedure has never been indicated for treating cellulite. In fact, Liposuction has been documented to worsen cellulite.
Creams are the best treatment for cellulite
According to Alan Matarasso M.D, cellulite creams are the only cure for cellulite. Matarasso displays his lack of understanding and knowledge of cellulite but also demonstrates the current thinking of Plastic Surgeons and Dermatologist when it comes to cellulite. The physician who understands cellulite can provide a variety of treatment options. However, there are a handful of physicians skilled in the treatment of cellulite.
Diet and exercise is not the cellulite cure
The media loves to report on the myth that diet and exercise will cure cellulite. Despite all their efforts, there are many women at their ideal weight and below their ideal weight who have cellulite.
There is no cure for cellulite
The last myth, which is a favorite of the media, Plastic Surgeons and Dermatologist, "there is nothing to do, just live with cellulite". This myth is very misleading and serves to take away the hope from women who are suffering with cellulite.
